Hosta College Announcements

Donations

It's time for another great Hosta College (March 14-15, 2008, in Piqua, Ohio) and we need your help. Would you please consider donating an item for a door prize? Donations may be made by a business, club or individual. Over 500 participants eagerly look forward to this drawing. Also, if you know anyone who would consider donating a doorprize, please have them call us! The prize list and donor names are posted and distributed so it is a great opportunity to advertise your business or organization.

Suggested donations: plants, bird items, fertilizers, books, garden ornaments, etc. Suggested value: $20 or more….depending on the type of item donated.

If you have any questions or comments, call Vicki Catlin at 502-472-7110, or email at: vcatlin@insightbb.com

 Banquet

We are continuing the expanded choices for our Saturday evening banquet this year- please select from either the chicken, salmon, or vegetarian lasagna entrees. Meals include Parsley Redskin Potatoes, Green Beans with Almonds, Fruited Greens w/sweet & sour dressing, Roll/Butter, Dessert, Coffee/Water/Iced Tea, at $18.00 per person. Spouses who aren't attending Hosta College, can join us for the banquet by including a note on your registration invoice, and including an aditional $18.

We are pleased to report our after-dinner treat is a presentation by Doug Beilstein, whose presentation is entitled, "Two Views."

Vending Fair

With the renovations done, the new Vending Fair is set to take place up by the Cafeteria, in one of the new sections of the UVJVS. A special promotion is being launched this year to mark the move to more convenient quarters during Hosta College. Be sure to drop in to the Vending Fair, and support the vendors who help with Hosta College classes and activities!

Vending schedule is the same as in years past, and is found in the College Schedule. (Please respect the time limits for vending, as many of the vendors are also teachers, and students, at Hosta College, and need to get to their classrooms before the next period begins.)

Vendors at Hosta College donate 10% of their sales to the GLRHS, to help defray costs of Hosta College and related activities. Look for a wide variety of plants and other garden material, and kick off your garden season at Hosta College!

Auction, Other Activities

Pre-Banquet program:

For those staying over for the banquet Saturday evening, in the auditorium,
after classes and before the banquet, we'll
show the DVD of 'FIRST FLOWER',  a PBS NOVA production."

Hostatality at the Comfort Inn:

Hostatality is NOT an official Great Lakes Region function. A few years
ago, Western New York Hosta Society decided that the students and
teachers need to continue conversations begun in classes and to renew
acquaintances. Since then, Hostatality has been held in a meeting room
off the breakfast space at the Comfort Inn.

And so it will be again this year. To that end, several GLR societies
have pledged financial support, and the WNYHS will organize the gathering, scheduled for Friday evening, beginning at 6 p.m., and Saturday evening after the banquet.

Park-A-Plant

Park-A-Plant is located in Room 315 E, adjacent to the cafeteria.  For a $2.00 donation per large box, your plants can be safely set aside while you continue to shop or attend

classes.  You must pick your plants up between 4:00 and 5:00 pm on Saturday

Plants left after 5:00 pm on Saturday will be donated to the GLR for next year’s auction

Bookstore

One of our most appreciated services, the bookstore will be found in its new location, to the right of the entrance foyer, rooms 221-223, and with the same open hours as Vending and Park-a-Plant (see schedule for details). Our bookmeister and the volunteers from the Indianapolis Hosta Society have stocked it with dozens of titles, new and traditional, all at substantial discounts off regular list prices for these great garden books. Our prices are barely above wholesale, as another benefit to Hosta college students. In addition, we will have a variety of GLRHS garden-related items and apparel for sale.
